Meet Cathy Schmelter, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)
I started An Ounce of Nutrition because I wanted to educate others about the value of consuming more real, fresh sustainable foods. I’ve always been a label reader and was mystified by the number of artificial additives and preservatives in food that provide no nutritional benefit. I was into what was in foods and how are they made (e.g. food processing) before it became cool and trendy to do so.
I, like other nutrition professionals, talk about nutrition and its impact on their health, but I was also curious – very curious about how these foods impact the environment, workers and the animals of the world. Later I learned things like how avocado farming is causing us to lose forests in Mexico and how palm oil is destroying rainforests. All of which I have shared with clients many times over the years.
But the thing that interests me most around sustainability is how the food choices we make are impacting the animals of the world. It truly breaks my heart to hear about animals suffering to provide food for us, simply because they can’t talk and don’t have a voice.
I have always been somewhat of a fruit and vegetable nerd – I can talk about them all day! The science person in me is ultra-curious about phytonutrients, anti-oxidants and how to prepare these foods to get their fullest potential. I will work with you to develop a custom-tailored plan specific to you and that suits your needs.
My Belief In Plants
I truly believe that following a whole, plant-based is the healthiest, most sustainable way of leading a healthy lifestyle. Many of the chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes can be prevented and sometimes cured by eating plants. This is why I have now launched a new nutrition coaching website to help adults transition to or support their plant-based eating journey. I can’t imagine a more rewarding life journey!

How does Customized Nutrition Coaching work ?
A registered dietitian will work hand and hand with you obtaining important information regarding your health and food goals. Then will carefully devise a custom plan specific to your needs.
How do I sign up?
Schedule a FREE 15-minute call to discuss your needs in greater detail and help you select the best plan that works for you.
Why do I need to schedule an initial assessment?
The initial assessment helps us learn about you in extensive detail which helps us support your journey in a very customized way.
How do I know which plan to choose?
If you need support figuring out how to live a plant-based lifestyle or how a plant-based lifestyle can support your health, then you will want to choose a longer plan. If you feel like you know what to do but just need ideas for recipes, then choose the 2-session option.
Can I sign up for an ongoing subscription?
Absolutely! Complete the authorization form found on this website, sign it and send to email@example.com. Cost for coaching is $99 per month (maximum of 2 half hour sessions per month) and care boxes are $299 per month (one per month).
Will my information remain private?
Absolutley! As aa Registered Dietitian, we are bound by HIPAA Privacy Rules!
How does a PBNFL Subscription work?
With a PBNFL subscription you will be entitled to up to 2 nutrition coaching sessions a month.
Can I make changes to my PBNFL Subscription?
Yes you may cancel at anytime with written notice via email to firstname.lastname@example.org or via text to your dietitians cell phone number.
What are care boxes?
Care boxes supply you with shelf-stable food items that help you get started with your plant-based journey. They include “how to” instructions, recipe ideas for a month, meal plans and the items needed to make the recipes contained within the box. Fresh or perishable items may be sent as well for an additional cost.
Do you ship to all 50 states?
Yes we do ship to most states in the continental US.
