Studies suggest that hibiscus tea may be most effective at lowering blood pressure when consumed in the afternoon or evening

Here are some reasons why this may be the case:

  • Hibiscus tea contains flavonoids:These antioxidants have been shown to relax blood vessels, which can lower blood pressure.
  • Drinking hibiscus tea in the afternoon or evening may help reduce stress:Stress can contribute to high blood pressure, so calming activities like drinking tea can help.
  • Hibiscus tea may have a diuretic effect:This means it can help the body eliminate excess sodium, which is a factor in high blood pressure.

It’s important to note that hibiscus tea may interact with certain medications, such as blood pressure-lowering drugs. It’s always best to consult with a healthcare professional before consuming hibiscus tea if you have any underlying health conditions or are taking any medications.

Hibiscus is widely consumed around the world as a ruby-colored, lemony beverage (it’s the main ingredient in Red Zinger tea). Hibiscus is safe and, unlike most blood pressure drugs, rarely causes side effects.
